Love This for My Diabetic Cat!November 14, 2008 I absolutely LOVE this system! People think I'm crazy, because I want to tell my friends and co-workers with cats about how great it is!
First - my cat is diabetic, so he pees alot (even though he is on insulin) and its a thick, sticky urine that smells awful and lays on TOP of clumping litter, does not soak in. So, we end up with puddles, sticky gross cat feet, and just a foul cat box scooping experience.
When I got this system, it took us almost 3 weeks to get him to use it, but we followed all the instructions and I talked to the folks at the Help Line - they were great!
TIP-- put the breeze system (without white side wall) in front of your cats covered litter box, so he has to walk through the new box to get to the old one. Then, put a scoop of his waste from the old box in the new one, he'll get the hint!
Now, my cat is using the Breeze entirely. When he pees, it makes only a tiny dark spot in the pellets but immediately they are dry to the touch. The pad is like a huge diaper and WOW can it hold a LOT! With NO smell. I did not realize the cat had started peeing in the new box until I check the pad.
BOTTOM LINE -- after my old foul scooping sessions, this is a dream! Scoop the poop each night (easy with the little scoop they give you - 1 minute), once or twice a week change the pad (1 minute), and once a month you dump the pellets and refresh (3 minutes). Awesome!
P.S. For cost, at my wal-mart, I am looking at approx $12 a month for pads and $6 per month for pellets... way cheaper than the old way.
Good Luck!
Best litter box I've ever used!!!November 13, 2008 "I'm tired of having to constantly feel litter in my bed and all over my carpet. I'm also tired of smelling urine in my room and trying to scoop out mush at the bottom of the litter box. This litter box intrigued me a lot. I heard about it online and thought I'd give it a try.
I have two cats and I purchased one breeze system. After 2 days both cats starting using the new box, so I took out my old box. The absorbant pad that goes underneath the litter tray is basically a big diaper. The urine quickly falls through the extra large litter pellets and gets soaked up by the pad.
After 3 days of them using that box, I took out the pad and it was really heavy, but it didn't really smell unless I got close to it. I could easily take it out of the pan without getting any urine on me. It was all locked into the pad. I folded it up, wrapped some newspaper around it and threw it out.
I usually go through 40 lbs of scoopable litter every 2 weeks, and if you buy the pads in bulk, you can get them for about $1 each. So I'm saving a lot of money and hassle with this set up.
The best part is...NO TRACKING OR LITTER ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!
I may see a piece thrown out of the litter box, but these big pieces are easy to pick up and throw back in the box.
They say the urine pad can last about a week for one cat, it seems about right. I'm going to go through 2 pads per week for my 2 cats.
The litter looks like it will last a long time. My cats have pooped a couple of times, but since the litter doesn't really cover the stools. It's easy to scoop it out without losing too many pellets. The litter should be changed about once a month. I'll see how it holds up with 2 cats.
The drawbacks are: -The litter doesn't cover the stools, so it is smelly when they go, but it just encourages me to quickly scoop it out and then spray some air scent, just like when I use the restroom.
-I'm not sure what the environmental impact of throwing all those absorbant pads away it compared to all the litter I was throwing away. I guess it would be similar to diapers, but I don't know how long they take to decompose.
I highly recommend buying the pads and litter in bulk on amazon.com. Otherwise it's too expensive to use this method of litter system. but if money is no concern to you, then this system is definitely the way to go if your cats accept it."
So far pretty happyNovember 8, 2008 I got this litter box about a week ago. I have two cats and live in a VERY small condo. Only 600 square feet. I love my cats but can't stand the smell of a litter box. I have tried every product and have not been as satisfied as this one so far. I think there is less smell than ever and there is NO litter covering my floors! I changed out the pee pad for the first time and couldn't believe that after sitting there a week I couldn't smell cat pee. I scoop the poo out about twice a day but it's much easier to do than a traditional cat litter box. The only concern I have is that my younger cat is not completely solid. Her poo is quite soft at times. So I end up having to scoop out more of the litter than you're supposed to. Also I sometimes have to wipe out poo streaks with a clorox wipe because the runny poo sticks to the box since there is less litter than a traditional box. I also am having to change out the litter completely on a more regular basis because the poo sticks to the litter and I don't like the idea of my cats walking through little pieces of poo in the box. But, because I'm willing to change it out more often and scoop twice a day, and wipe with clorox wipes, I believe this is the best cat box yet. It's the first time ever I've been able to walk into my tiny condo and not go PU I smell cats. I love it! :)
Great productNovember 5, 2008 The Breeze system is definitely aptly named. I have been using this system for about six months now, and though it took about five days for my cats to grow accustomed to it, I am so very glad that I took the "leap" to changing litter systems. I had been using crystals for quite some time prior to Breeze, and though I was fairly happy with how they worked, I did not like the fact that they tracked all over the place. Breeze barely tracks--occasionally a couple of pieces of pellets can be found outside of the box, but I think that it is mostly due to my two cats spreading the litter around the box and some of it getting "kicked" out. My only complaint with the pellets is that it's more difficult for the cats to bury their poop, so if it's a "fresh" one, it can smell until it dries out a bit. It's a big help to scoop the poop out a couple of times a day, morning and evening. When you scoop, most of the pellets fall through the scoop, so I almost always just turn around and flush the poop. (The litter box is in my spare bathroom under the sink behind curtains.) I agree with other reviewers who say that the poop smells a little more than with other kinds of litter. However... The job that Breeze does with cat pee and its smell is well worth a little more poop smell. The pads are super absorbent and really "suck up" the pee without making a mess. The pad has a vinyl back, so the pad tray stays dry (unless you forget to change the pad). I just fold the pad into thirds and dump it in the trash. I then put a new pee pad in the tray, and it's good to go. Just a quick note: I have two cats and two Breeze systems side-by-side. My cats have chosen to (mostly) use one Breeze box to pee in, and the other to poop in. Thus, i have to change the pad in the "pee" box approximately every three days. Since my two felines seem to use one end (actually one spot) of the "pee box," I have to rotate the tray (Turn it around 180 degrees) after a day and a half of use. Whatever Purina puts in that pad--boy does it absorb! Not just does it absorb the liquid, but also the odor. And there's nothing worse than the smell of old cat pee! Yuck! I change the pellets in each box once each month as specified in the Breeze directions. I think that the cost of the Breeze system just about equals the cost of using crystals, however because the pee pads absorb so much liquid-- that translates into much less weight of the new product to carry around. So, for those of you who don't like to lift, this is the system for you. One more note: Definitely follow the directions that Purina gives you for making the transition to the Breeze system. (I misread the directions, and it didn't work at first).
Not a Huge DealOctober 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We happened to see this at Walmart one day and thought we'd give it a try, fully expecting that the cats may not like it. We set it up in our room and let them sniff around it and get used to it. After a while, I placed each cat in the box and let them get used to the feel of the litter. Then I even showed them that they could dig in it (in the past, lifting their paws in the new litter and making a digging motion was all they needed to realize that's where the poop goes).
Our two males switched to the new litter the first night. They didn't protest or use the floor instead. I didn't need to let their litter get dirty. I simply placed the new box where the old one was, and no problems since.
Since there isn't anything to cover the poop, it does get a little smelly, but I don't think it's any worse than the old litter box. I scoop it out every other day, which takes about a minute. Some of the pellets stick to the poop, since they still try to cover it, but I only lose about 10 pellets every few days. I haven't had to buy any more yet, and it's been 2 1/2 weeks (supposed to last a month).
The pad has been in for just a day under a week and I smell nothing. The ammonia was the main problem I was having with the old system so I greatly appreciate this new system. Some owners are saying their pads only last about 3 days, I don't know what the difference is between their cats and ours, but our pad has been fine. Maybe our cats don't drink nearly as much water.
In my opinion, if you can stand to lose $35 or have a friend who wants to try it if you decide to give up, then go for it. You may just like it.
