2 out of 5 stars Seriously overpriced, but it's your only option   October 15, 2008

If I were to guess what this should cost (minus the included AC adapter) I would say about thirty dollars. It's a bulky hollow plastic case that really only acts as a USB hub and a battery charger. It does not provide any way to sync the Q1 to another computer, nor does it provide a VGA out to connect to a monitor. You connect it to one of the two USB ports on the Q1, so it really only provides two extra USB ports. The only real advantage over a ten dollar USB hub is the battery charger, and that's why this gets two stars instead of one. It's nice that you can charge a spare battery and the one in the Q1 at the same time. But Samsung should really offer a smaller charger at a tiny fraction of the price that charges a spare battery by itself (and that doesn't include a possibly un-needed AC adapter.) I wouldn't buy this if I didn't absolutely need to be charging a battery while using the Q1 in the field.

3 out of 5 stars Not Just a Battery Charger   March 11, 2008

The Q1 Ultra docking station is more a battery charger than a docking station, but it does deliver in both areas. The power cord connects into the back and there is a power plug on the right hand side that engages with the Q1U. You just slide the Q1U from left to right and the power plug fits nicely. I also purchased the 6-cell battery and the Q1U fits into the docking station with either battery. You can also place a second battery into the top of the docking station and charge both batteries at once, which is a great feature when you know you will need more than one battery.

The docking station is just a USB hub. So you can plug a keyboard and mouse (3 USB ports in all) into the docking station to create a desktop environment. The docking station has a USB cable in the back that just reaches the top of the Q1U when engaged. Simply plug the USB cable into the top USB port on the Q1U and you're ready to go. Connecting a monitor or Ethernet cable is possible, albeit less convenient, but hardly necessary if you can use the 7" screen and wireless.

For me, the docking station will mostly serve as a battery charger, so I don't think it's worth the price. That is the reason for my three-star rating. If it was half the price I would have given it a higher rating.
