Don't Buy Gateway July 7, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I purchased a Gateway FX580, a similar high-powered gaming system to this and had problems from day one. I had purchased the extended warranty with at-home service. First they replaced the 500 Gb harddrive, but the problems continued. So then they replaced the motherboard, and the problems continue. So I had to send it in for "repair" at my own expense. I had vacation coming up and they told me that it would take 3-5 business days for repair, so I sent it overnight. It got there on Thursday, but they didn't start work on it until the following Monday. Then they tell me it will be 7-10 business days for repair (thanks for lying to me to begin with). I ask that they not ship it back to me until after the July 4th holiday, explaining that I will not be home. What do they do, they send it so it arrives while I'm away. The shipping company tries several times, but I'm not home. When I get back, I find they obviously don't know how to follow a simple direction, and now I have to go to the shipper to pick it up, on my own dime.
Between the poor communication to the customer and their inability to follow a simple direction I would not buy from Gateway again. In the meantime, I'm stuck. I just hope they really repaired it.
Read the warranty. You are responsible for shipping it to them for repair, as if we have to pay for their blunders. Not a smart company if you ask me.
Gateway does not stand behind their products. May 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought a Gateway desktop and Windows got hosed for some reason. We called 1-800-GATEWAY for support. Guess what? If you buy a Gateway anywhere but their website you must call a separate toll number. WTF!? Then we needed to restore it but the restore partition was bad. Had to get the recovery disk. They charged me $20 for a $1 CD-R. Then it wouldn't work, and they wanted to charge me to tell me how to use it. Again WTF? These people are horrible. Save yourself a lot of trouble and get a Mac. Anything but Gateway.
