4 out of 5 stars good bag   November 15, 2008
you will need to fill it with sand. filling it with 270 lbs as recommended, it still moved about 6 in. from the floor. I made a hole on top and filled it with 400 lbs. now it moves only an inch from the floor. dont fill it with any more because the column would be too heavy, just up to 1/3 the column

4 out of 5 stars perfect for a smaller person   November 3, 2008

PROS:
Take it out of the box, fill it with water, ready for action.
Cheap, only $99 at my local sporting goods store.
A smaller person could get a lot of use from this

CONS
it is kind of noisy as it rock back and forth on the patio,
it creeps around the more you hit it, (for a man my size, it rocks too easily)
it is difficult to move without damaging the plastic

SUMMARY

As long as you're not trying to develop a knock out punch or train for the MMA, this is a pretty good investment... BUT probably best suited for users weighing less that 150 and smaller than 6' (its not very tall)

I am 6'-1", 220 and this is undersized for me, however if I use it at the end of my workout and don't try to kill it, it's fun and good for cardio.

4 out of 5 stars Understand What the Bag is For Before Buying It   October 12, 2008

The "original" Wavemaster free-standing training bag is an older design, but it is still one of the top models available. The large base allows the bag to be hit with significant force without tipping, and the long center pole provides a target area up to a rough height of five and a half feet. The unpadded plastic base is resistant to damage, but can still be broken if accidentally kicked with too much force - an important aspect to realize, since this "no-kick" area is the first foot and a half of the device. The bag can be pushed/rolled into a corner when not in use, but be aware that it is somewhat difficult to move when completely filled. And, while this bag is especially good at absorbing the force of non-linear strikes (round kicks, hook kicks, hook punches), linear strikes that go UPWARD (non-thrusting front kick, grazing uppercuts) will tend to rip the padding from the glue/center that holds it in place, breaking the bag. Still, this is definitely one of the best models to get for the price (at the time of this writing, ranging between $100 and $135 depending on sales and shipping), and I highly recommend it.

But, is a free-standing bag for you? This type of bag IS NOT for everyone in every instance. A free standing bag...
- is NOT SILENT. If you live in an apartment building or have people living below you, THEY WILL HEAR/FEEL you striking this bag (just like a more traditional punching bag).
- is NOT IMMOVABLE. All bags move when struck - hanging bags, however, eventually swing back into position. The "give" this movement provides is a good thing, as anyone that has ever kicked a telephone pole or punched a brick wall can tell you. The bag provides significant resistance to strikes, but it can be knocked over or slid if struck with too much force or improper technique. Try working both sides of the bag during a workout in order to keep it in the same general place.
Make sure to keep these aspects in mind when considering your purchase.

Note: A "waterbed fill & drain kit" is an excellent purchase to go with this bag, as it allows the Wavemaster to be easily drained and filled (along with a hose) as needed. Most people will not be able to lift the Wavemaster when it is completely filled with water, so having a way to drain it (especially if you intend to move in the next year or so) is a must.

Great to take out your daily stress on. I enjoy watching the news and listening to the political updates. That gets me going. Lost 20 lbs.

2 out of 5 stars Too Light with water   September 19, 2008

I filled it with water, and boy its too light. I live on an upstairs apartment and can't use it. It just bounces too much with even slightest of punches and the whole bottom apartment starts to complain.

Haven't tried it with sand yet, but yeah if u buy it try not to fill it with water.
