An interview with a photographerAugust 26, 2008 This DVD is worth to watch but it is more of an interview rather than getting technical or giving tips for a better photography, it teaches how this man's life turned by photography, all in all truly inspiration to watch.

Calumet Photographic's DVD The Essence of Photography with John Upton is an excellent interview of an artist who has worked a lifetime in the medium. John Upton co-authored the book Photography, the preeminent text that, in my opinion, all others have been measured against since the mid 1970s. Interviewer Jerry Oher is well prepared and the questions invite aesthetic depth from the artist as well as the challenges of technological expertise of the medium. John Upton is wonderfully articulate in describing areas of importance to making and looking at photographs, as well as looking at the medium's history and changing technology. The Essence of Photography provides a fundamental view of photography beyond the usual how-to. It has a wide audience appeal for photographers and for beginning photography course curriculums.
