Product Description
GE's most affordable entry-level digital camera - A 3X optical zoom and a 4.5X digital zoom, a vibrant 2.5-inch LCD screen, 7 megapixels, and a simple, intuitive user interface. Powered by two AA batteries.

You want megapixels? The A730 has seven - you dont see that every day in a basic model. A simple, intuitive user interface makes the A730 easy to use right out of the box. A 3X optical zoom and a 4.5X digital zoom capture superior close-ups. And a vibrant 2.5-inch LCD screen makes it easy to frame your subject and review your images.

Packed inside its sleek and stylish camera body is a whole host of additional features like in-camera panoramic stitching, red-eye removal, facetracking, electronic stabilization and MPEG-4 movie recording. Powered by two AA batteries, the A730 even has an SD/SDHC memory card slot expandable up to an amazing 4 gigabytes.

Youll be hard pressed to find a more feature-rich entry-level camera. And thats why the A730 is one of the first cameras worthy of the GE name.

  • 3x Optical Zoom
  • 2.5" LCD

  • Image Stabilization
  • Panorama stitching - allows for the creation of ultra-wide panoramic shots

4 out of 5 stars Good value for money: let down by inadequate documentation   November 24, 2008
I already have a Canon S3-IS digital camera for "semi-serious" pictures. However, for many years I've kept a disposable camera in my car, just in case someone crashes into me (a lesson I learned while living in London!). I bought a digital disposable camera, and concluded that such cameras are a severe waste of money, so I decided to invest in this GE model instead. Such cameras are also useful for snapping unexpected moments when I don't have the "real" camera with me. It's very convenient and fairly simple to use. The picture quality obviously isn't as good as the Canon, but then it's a much cheaper camera.
My only gripe about this camera is the shoddy documentation. The printed manual is very basic: most of the extra information is in a PDF file on the CD supplied. However, even that doesn't properly explain all the features. Annoyingly, the PDF doesn't have a hyper-linked Table of Contents, which makes its design amateurish.
The problem I was trying to solve via the documentation is that I cannot download the pictures from the camera automatically. I suspect that there may be some conflict with the Canon download, but I haven't yet been able to confirm that. I solved the problem by physically removing the SDHC card from the camera and putting it into a card reader. That worked fine, but it's a clumsy solution!
The camera has a couple of advantages from my POV:
    1) It uses standard AA batteries, so I can use the excellent Sanyo Eneloop AAs, instead of some special rechargeable unit,
    2) It uses a standard SD or SDHC memory card, so I don't have to buy a special memory card for this camera. I was able to reuse an older SD card that I'd bought for the Canon camera.
Overall, then, it's a good camera for the low price, which could be made excellent with better documentation. It's definitely more economic than a disposable digital camera, and provides better quality than a camera-phone.

3 out of 5 stars Think before you buy   August 11, 2008

This camera works as best as it can
I believe the only bad things that make this camera suck are the following: You can't take a fast enough picture
If you hands shake dont buy this camera
When the videos come out they are blurry
if you accidently drop this camera the lens will break
the red camera is not as shiny as the black one
(the color is more of a kid setting )
Suggestions if you are desperate for this red camera:
    *buy a warranty
    have fun!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good.   July 18, 2008

It came quickly, works fine. It's not as nice as my last camera so there's some disappointment, but my last camera, though when I bought it was comparable in price, is now wicked more expensive. So, for the price, this camera is good. But you can find better deals on amazon....sometimes.

4 out of 5 stars great first camera for pre teen   July 16, 2008
I purchased this digital camera for my grand daughter. She did all the online research. I checked it out too and agreed it was a great looking camera. She loves it and I recently viewed a short video clip she took at her brothers 2nd birthday party. It was terrific, good quality and sound was good too. All in all a really smart looking, slim, light weight camera. She loves it!

4 out of 5 stars Good Camera, Good Price.   July 15, 2008
Aside from the user's manual which I thought wasn't as detailed as it should have been, this is a good digital camera at a good price. It seems to be a little bigger than most digital cameras but, at less than $100 I got what I expected. I'm happy with what I got.
