This roasting pan turned out to be the perfect thing for me. I have had issues with roasts drying out before, but with the domed lid on this one I had no issues and my roast turned out very tender and moist. The mostiture was locked inside while the roast cooked creating not only a moist roast but also a wonderful aroma when the lid was lifted. My only issue was the roaster is smaller then most would like. It is not large enough for a large roast and veggies. However because I am normally cooking for just me and my husband this isn't a real issue for me. Its the prefect size about 4 people, not much more then that.
I have used my roasting pan for dips and a cassarole aside from just using it for roasts. Its a matter of thinking outside the normal if you want to use this for more then what it was ment for. Pyrex has created all in all a roaster that does a wonderful job at what it was intended for, roast foods. I would recomed this to anyone and have already told friends about it.
A Waste of space!March 15, 2008 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
The Pyrex Smart Essentials 4 quart Healthy Roaster is a total disappointment on every level.
1. The "domed lid with self-basting functionality" is useless. It is supposed to keep food moist while roasting. Well, that just doesn't happen. If you want moist food, you must REMOVE the domed lid and cover the glass roasting dish with foil. (My pot roast was completely dried up until I managed to salvage it by covering with foil and adding more liquid).
2. The oddly shaped roasting dish makes it unusable for much of anything. It can't be used as a lasagna pan because it's basically a weird oval shape. (plus, I already have 3 of those).
3. The non-stick rack is just a joke. I had to remove it and put a small round rack in its place so I could fit the vegetables around the roast.
I would have returned this "thing" but it would have cost a small fortune in postage. So, this will go to the basement until our next garage sale.
