A MUST for dutch oven cookingJuly 28, 2008 This lid lifter is so great, I won't ever do dutch oven cooking without it again.
The heavy iron lifter will pick up lids of dutch ovens covered in hot coals, allowing me to check or stir the food in the oven. It also lets us quickly rotate our lids and ovens (we do that every 10-15 minutes so the meals inside cook evenly).
The long handle keeps our hands safely away from the heat of the oven and red-hot briquettes.
Nice to have...June 19, 2008 You can cook almost anything in a dutch oven with or without the Lid Lifter. Assuming you're outside, a branch will probably do the same job. Nevertheless, The lifter is well built and provides a solid lifting mechanism for the heavy lids. If you're lugging arround a dutch oven than the additional weight of this lifter won't make much of a difference.

Don't leave home without it!April 13, 2008 I own a Lodge 12" deep. I bought this one day as an impulse purchase. Now I wonder what I ever did without it. It works perfectly, and the best part about this lid lifter is that there's really nothing else you can use it for, so it's always sitting by your dutch oven when you need it. When I was using a oven mitt to lift the lid, I could never find the thing because I would set it somewhere on the other side of the camp.(or someone else would use it and misplace it). If you own a dutch oven, you will love this lifter.

If you do dutch oven cooking, one of these is a must-have. I think the construction of this particular lid lifter is better than any others I have seen.
