Excellent...except handle is not really oven proof. November 22, 2008 Everyone says these are great and everyone also knows that their single flaw is that the handle is only good to 400 F. This just confirms that.
Would be nice if it held another quart, but that would be apple polishing.
form and function November 16, 2008 Not only is this an eye catching piece of cookery, it really really works.
I purchased the 6 quart which was great for making major amounts of meat for a party. I also purchased the 3 quart dutch oven in caribbean blue, which works great for mac and cheese, or if I'm cooking just for myself.
So far, I've roasted a chicked and made italian style beef from chuck roast in it, and it works GREAT. Everything cooks about 30% faster than just plain roasting, so I can use a much lower temperature without having to keep it in the oven all day. I find I'm surfing recipe web sites for ideas to utilize both pots more!
Super dutch oven September 13, 2008 Cooked chicken to perfection - love the large size of this dutch oven. I also just made soup in it and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the soup was ready. Just bought a pot roast and am confident it will be perfect. Everyone needs this in their kitchen!
Cooking Green September 7, 2008 This is not our first color enamel item from Lodge or even our first 6 quart dutch oven. That in itself should tell you something about our regard for the products. We have one in Cafe and one in Emerald, one for the home and one for the cabin as well as several other pieces and plan to add more. These little jewels are perfect for simmering a stew or beans, chili and the like using very little heat or fire. I prefer to use them with an actual flame, but they work fine with an electric stove also. They do a decent job as a fryer or making wild berry jam also. We wouldn't be without ours. The clean up is easy and the food delicious.
Wow! August 13, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Shipping of my Lodge 6 qt was delayed and I was really getting antsy. The minute it finally arrived I quickly thawed a pound of lean beef and whipped up some Picadillo (Mexican ground beef dish suitable for stuffing tacos as well).
I was blown away by the flavor. I've cooked a lot of years, but I never realized that cookware can actually make such an enormous difference. Used the same recipe I've made for years, but the flavor was improved 2 or 3 times (really).
I was also surprised at how quickly it heated up over just medium fire (they warn you not to cook any higher than that, and now I understand why -- you don't need to). I waited as advised for it to cool down before washing and it cleanup up quickly with no effort.
